There are many forms of yoga techniques in practice today. There are many styles of yoga, but teachers should be familiar with the nine main forms of yoga, from India, and their relationships to contemporary styles.

Body focused types of yoga include bikram yoga, ashtanga yoga, Iyengar yoga and vinyasa yoga. Perhaps its most important benefit is it's ability to reduce tension and stress. A yoga instructor will slowly guide students through poses one at a time.

Students should understand that some forms of daily low level stress are unavoidable, and make them stronger because of the experience, but extreme stress can cause panic attacks, heart attacks, or premature death. People already know they should eat better, walk more, exercise, and drink more water, but they need to maintain their level of motivation, without burning out. The most important point in yoga for a beginner is to breathe correctly during the postures.

Make a regular schedule for your yoga practice and stick to it. The psychological benefits of yoga provide individuals a more balanced approach to our individual well being.
